Rawhide Exhibit

Our shingles were showcased in the Hirsuta's Rawhide exhibit this summer, in the prestigious Southern California Institute of Architecture. Raspberry Fields is a fresh and creative way to apply the use of curved shingles to achieve very unconventional effects, creating a truly spectacular result. An essential component in these geometrically complex, undulating roof lines are the curved cedar shingles, which set apart any roof from the ordinary. Here, the simple change in shape to one of the oldest cladding units in architecture produces a powerful amplification of the material presence of shingles (above photo by Joshua White).

Rumson Residence

18" #1 grade, pre-stained Cedar shingles were provided and installed at a large and beautifully detailed new construction home in Rumson, NJ. Many areas, including the large bell towers, roof and wall swales, required us to steam-bend the shingles in our warehouse. The excellence in craftsmanship in the many intricate roof and sidewall areas is truly spectacular. The semi-transparent stain on all sides of the shingles, brings out the rich, natural hues in the woodgrain, and will extend the material life of the roof and wall shingles.

Luxury Villas

This summer, we were selected for a large project in one of the worlds top exotic destinations: Thailand. In order to create a truly spectacular result, it can take a lot of thought and preparation. Our company was privileged to work closely with the resort's owner and design firm to achieve a truly spectacular result. The shingles were custom cut in graduated sizes, in a Dragon's Tooth pattern, and milled from Teak hardwood. Because of the contemporary and radius roof contours, the Teak shingles needed to be steam-bent to conform to the roof's shape. With the strict timeframe, bending was done onsite, using our mobile steam-bending unit. The graduated sizing allowed us to install symmetrical, radial course lines, and with the lasting beauty of Teak ensures this roof will continue to turn heads for a long, long time.

Kona Paradise

We used re-claimed teak, chamfered-edge shingles on a private residence in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. Because of the roofs' unique rounded surface, the teak shingles were bent on-site using our mobile steam-bending unit. The shingles were cut into graduated sizes, keeping the courses perfectly elliptical over all of the roofs' surfaces. The beauty and durability of teak assures this project will be a lasting masterpiece.

This summer our company was called upon to install a cottage roof at a beautiful estate in Barrington, Ilinois. The walls of the structure were built using tumbled river rock and surrounded by grand glass clerestory roofs and turrets, with a large swimming pool that wrapped in, out, and around the building. The architecture begged a storybook cottage roof, but the existing roof was framed conventionally with straight and machined lines. After a couple design renderings, our team removed the existing roofing material down the deck, and re-framed the roof with rolling roof edges. We then steam-bent cedar shingles to fit the roofs edges, and using pre-dipped cedar shingles in a custom color that now adorns the roof.
