West Coast Whimsy

Tucked in Southern California sits this quaint, storybook cottage. Built in 1926, it originally featured a real cedar shingled roof. After the forest fires of 2025, the owner opted to replace the roof with synthetic wood shingles instead.

Chosen for this project were Enviroshake’s Aged Cedar Shingles. These synthetic shingles are made from 95% post-industrial recycled materials, and carry a Class A fire rating.

As with all cottage projects, detailed pictures were taken beforehand to ensure the wave coursing and stacking would match the original style of the roof. The install turned out beautifully, complete with the rounded gables matching the originals and sweeping wave coursing throughout, keeping the character and depth of the roof alive.
